"I think a black leather sofa meets a pair of lucite lamps to complete this look."
Initially exploring abstract forms from 1970 to 1989, Ray Elman's artistic journey took a transformative turn in 1989 with a series of monumental mixed-media portraits, some as large as 5 feet tall.
Throughout his career, his artwork has graced museums, galleries nationwide, and adorned walls in 12 U.S. foreign embassies. Portrait work of Pulitzer Prize recipients such as Jhumpa Lahiri, Stanley Kunitz, Alan Dugan, and U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky now reside in the esteemed collection of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, where they have garnered acclaim through exhibitions.
